Oakland Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial arts program that emphasizes ground fighting and self-protection. It also teaches how to apply takedowns and throws, joint locks and chokeholds in order to defeat your opponent. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu originated in Brazil. It is a form of martial arts that has become a sport, as well as a way of life.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ is a tried-and-true martial art. It’s also a proven method for self-defense. The Army, Navy Seals (FBI), FBI, and local police all train in Jiu-Jitsu. Guardian students start by learning the most trusted techniques BJJ offers. BJJ does not require you to memorize katas or forms like traditional martial art, but it does teach discipline and respect. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes cater to all levels. While a background in martial art can be helpful, it is not necessary to have any prior experience.

ADULT JIU-JITSU PROGRAMS
All adult/jr Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students over 13 are welcome to join this class. The class will cover a wide range of BJJ training techniques from basic to advanced. The intentional mixing of belts gives beginner students the opportunity to practice fundamentals alongside advanced students. In turn, advanced trainees gain training partners that will help them refine their fundamentals as well as test new, advanced techniques.
The heart of Jiu-jitsu classes is: Classes incorporate some of our “seasoned” novices. Some of these students are partnered with the most experienced and patient BJJ practitioners. These will provide a wide range and variety of skills to aid in building confidence in each student. The ability to mix partners allows for advanced practitioners to improve their skills. Full sparring is encouraged, but not required.
The class structure is based on a warm up and conditioning, lesson in technique, partner application training, and sparring for students to learn their overall jiujitsu techniques.
SUBMISSION GRAPPLING (NO GI)
Submission Grappling is a term that describes aspects of martial arts and combat sports that are based on clinch or ground fighting in the pursuit of a submission. It brings together techniques from Freestyle Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Folk American Wrestling (catch-as-catch-can), Sambo, and Judo. Submission Grappling can be a great way of learning self-defense as well as a fun way keep in shape. You do not need any prior martial arts experience.
KID’S JIU-JITSU PROGRAM
Oakland Kid’s Jiujitsu will bring you immeasurable benefits. Our unique Kid’s Jiu-jitsu Program is for children from 6 to 12. It helps them develop self-defense skills. Jiujitsu is great not only for self defense but also as a proven way to protect yourself.
Kid’s Jiujitsu encourages children to use their brains and bodies to build dexterity, motor skills and coordination. Your children will learn Jiujitsu principles and concepts. These concepts will help them prepare for self-defense and when it’s time to join the JR Jiu Jitsu class.
Jiujitsu is not just for self-defense. It also brings balance to the mind and body that will help your child grow in self-esteem. The pace of modern society means that anxiety, stress, and peer pressure are everywhere. Adults and children alike need to learn how relax.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gives kids the confidence to adapt to our ever-changing environment. Children love it, and they can let off steam with structured martial arts training. The emphasis on individual progress will help build their confidence and allow them to learn new skills. The application with a partner is a great way to learn the fundamentals of Jiu-jitsu.
