Monroe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s (BJJ), is a martial art that focuses heavily on ground fighting, self-protection and applying takedowns throws, chokeholds, joint locks, and sweeps to defeat an opponent. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu originated in Brazil. It is a form of martial arts that has become a sport, as well as a way of life.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ is a tried-and-true martial art. It’s also a proven method for self-defense. The Army, Navy Seals (FBI), FBI, and local police all train in Jiu-Jitsu. Guardian students learn the best techniques in BJJ. BJJ has no katas (or forms) to memorize unlike traditional martial arts. But, like all martial arts disciplines BJJ teaches discipline as well as respect. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes cater to all levels. While a background in martial art can be helpful, it is not necessary to have any prior experience.

When I go to TAMA I always learn something new. Whether it’s a new technique or something new I learned about myself as a person. Great instructors, great group of guys and great Jiu-jitsu school!

My parents enrolled me a couple years ago, now my brother and dad are part of the Tama family too. I like that we all have a sport that challenges us together.
Xavier Bautista - Kid's Jiu-Jitsu
I started jiu jitsu with my dad and after 1 year of training I am no longer as shy of a person as I used to be. I now have confidence and the drive to go after things I want and feel comfortable around people that didnt exist before. I recommend it for anybody who lacks confidence, has low self esteem, or just wants a good workout too.
Lexi May
TAMA is one big family. From the moment I walked in the door, everyone there was willing to give me personal attention and help develop my skills. On top of that, it’s a seriously good, full body workout!

We felt welcomed and encouraged in the jui-jitsu family as soon we arrived at TAMA. Each day, we have grown in the sport and found camaraderie in our fellow TAMA teammates.
Mark Bautista
I’ve learned so much so quickly in the sport. That’s attributed to the dedication of the staff at TAMA, each offering a different perspective and sharing their knowledge. Never thought I would enjoy getting my butt kicked every time I walk in!
Gabriel Bautista
After years away from education and work, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu bug bit hard on me at TAMA in Dayton Ohio. Day one, feeling like a mammoth succumbing to an inevitable crawling glacier, I was thrilled to find that there was much to learn. The friendly and open training environment at TAMA BJJ, lead by JR and Master T, allowed the students to thrive according to their effort.
David O Sigthorsson
I really enjoy doing jiu jitsu at Tama. The instructors are great and so are the people. It’s a good hard workout, and a fun game to play.
Daniel Kaufman
I have had a great time at Tama. I have been a student here for almost 2 years. I’ve noticed great improvement in both my physical health and self confidence. I have increased strength, stamina, and flexibility. Before Tama, I was unsure if I could defend myself if I ever needed to. Now, I am confident I can effectively defend myself in any situation if needed. I am a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai student. Tama has the best atmosphere of any gym I’ve ever been to and I wouldn’t want to train anywhere else.
Levi Schwartz
I started training Jiu Jitsu for self defense. After training for a year and a half it’s become much more than that. I now feel like I have a second family. Fellow training partners are great and our instructor J.R. Reynolds is an awesome instructor with what seems like an endless amount of knowledge to give.
